About this deal

I love listening to the author in podcast interviews--she has so much wisdom to share and relatable stories to vividly illustrate each type. Stabile explores each of the nine Enneagram types in detail, providing insights into their core fears, desires, and patterns of behavior. Clearly, a lot of people have found this book helpful, but I found it difficult to follow, understand, and process, and I only found a couple of new insights after the trouble that I went to. I recognized at a young age that when I expressed myself in ways that were seen as ‘different’ it wasn’t received well.

Pain and discomfort is your body’s way of telling you that something isn’t right, and needs attention. I had nearly forgotten what connection to my truth felt like and in seeking connection I found myself running into walls of division, yet again. This isn't just about surviving a divorce; it's about thriving, finding joy, and building a life filled with purpose and meaning.

All of her books have helped me to do that, while also increasing my own knowledge about myself and others. She encourages readers to explore the “wings” of their Enneagram type and the potential growth opportunities they offer. The struggle isn't the same for each of us, but we can journey toward spiritual and emotional growth together. The whole book is written in a way that feels narrative and guiding, rather than an encyclopedia of terms or behaviors.

It definitely gives a comprehensive view of how your number connects to other numbers in ways I didn't realize. This book is written with the assumption that readers already have a base knowledge of the enneagram, and that they probably know their enneagram number. I may never convince some folks who are certain it isn’t so that LGBTQ people are evidence of God’s extravagant creative diversity. Obviously, knowing one’s Enneagram type helps, so I would encourage reading The Road Back to You or another introduction to the Enneagram before, or along with, this book. Many use the Enneagram as a crutch, "this is just who I am," but Suzanne helps you level up, go deeper under the surface, lift up the hood and get dirty, metaphor metaphor metaphor (bet you can guess my type). The second section is about stances, which in my opinion, is Suzanne’s greatest contribution to Enneagram work and the place where I personally have found the greatest potential for growth and transformation.

Suzanne lays out two important arenas for personal growth: how we see, and what we do with what we see.Suzanne brings tremendous experience in working with this material and in seeing what aspects of it truly help others. We pick apart each emotion we feel, each quality of our being to find a reason, a root, or an explanation. Why you should read this book A read through this book will not only give you a greater understanding of the choices your are making, but will also give you insight into the choices of those you walk with in this life.
