About this deal

Ffion is a great character – conscientious in her pursuit of a murderer, although far from rigorous in her relationship with formal protocol. I got into Claire Mackintosh after reading 'After the End', and 'I Let You Go' but this doesn't nearly compare (in a bad way). The central mystery keeps you guessing and the relationships between our major characters continues to be compelling. A Game of Lies is the second of Clare Mackintosh's series featuring North Wales police detective DC Ffion Morgan. Ffion is struggling with her emotions and a new rescue dog named Dave, who is THE BEST; he brings some much-needed humor into the plot.

It seems like their lives are moving forward in separate ways until they meet in another case related to one of the highest-rated reality shows, "Exposure. When one of the contestants goes missing before the revelation process, turning it into a murder mystery, the authorities get involved in the investigation. Thank you to SOURCEBOOKS Landmark, Clare Mackintosh and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. DC Ffion Morgan lives with her mother in the village of Cwn Coed and knows almost everybody in her patch.Translated into forty languages, her books have sold more than two million copies worldwide, and have spent a combined total of 64 weeks in the Sunday Times bestseller chart. When a production company arrives to shoot a controversial reality show, Exposure, there is excitement in the small village. It's quite hard to discuss the book without spoiling it for others but the premise 2nd bookis based once again in the Welsh mountains. It is a reality show and there are seven contestants involved and they have no clue what they have let themselves in for. It’s a lengthy procedural with a lot of characters, a non-linear timeline, and it won’t be for everyone but once I got into the story a bit I was well and truly addicted and it’s still a favorite.

The emotional depth and authenticity with which MacKintosh portrays their struggles and triumphs make them relatable and endearing. Rechercheur Ffion Morgan moet wat ze van de show gezien heeft vergeten en uitzoeken wie deze mensen werkelijk zijn, wetende dat ze geen van hen kan vertrouwen. I thoroughly enjoyed the well-constructed, twisty murder mystery and the structure that goes back and forth to reveal the secrets and motives each contestant carries and acts upon. Detective Ffion Morgan has to put aside what she watched on screen and find out who these people really are - knowing she can't trust any of them. Stranded in the Welsh mountains, seven reality show contestants have no idea what they’ve signed up for.

I was never bored and was invested in the drama behind the secrets of the reality contestants, as well as the drama that makes up Ffion’s life. What they thought was a show in the vein of Survivor was, in reality, a show that would expose their deep, dark secrets. I think my only negative is how Ffion behaves in this book, felt like she was more harsh/ rash in her decision making and less her usual self. Anyone could go to great lengths to prevent their secrets from coming out or to avenge the person who already ruined their life. We are back in Wales where a reality TV ahow incites murder and mayhem, bringing Ffion and Leo back together to investigate.
